Palomar Falls to San Diego Mesa in Season Finale, 14-10

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/16/2024) -- Palomar College wrapped up their season with a narrow 14-10 loss to San Diego Mesa College on Saturday. Despite the defeat, the Comets' defense stood out with a resilient effort, led by Davion Green's exceptional three-interception performance. Green finished the season with nine total interceptions, leading the state and cementing his status as one of the premier defensive players in California.

San Diego Mesa opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run by Danny Davis in the first quarter, but Palomar quickly answered with a nine-play, 76-yard drive capped by a 4-yard touchdown pass from quarterback KJ Chatham to Quincy Herron. The game remained tied at 7-7 heading into halftime, with both defenses holding strong.

Palomar took a brief 10-7 lead early in the third quarter after Jonathon Meyers connected on a 33-yard field goal. The Comets' defense continued to make impactful plays throughout the game, with Green's interceptions stalling key Mesa drives. Palomar also saw significant contributions from Jaiden Letua, who was a force with 14 total tackles, including multiple stops behind the line of scrimmage. Jacob Sisson added pressure in the backfield, recording a sack and consistently disrupting Mesa's offense.

In the fourth quarter, Mesa regained the lead with a 10-yard touchdown run by Davis, capping an 80-yard drive. Despite trailing, Palomar's defense refused to back down. Andy Devine registered seven tackles, and Tucker Murphy contributed with five tackles, including crucial stops that kept the game close. Petey Patrick and Kavyion Hicks also played pivotal roles, combining for solid run defense and helping limit Mesa's ground game.

Offensively, Palomar finished with 236 total yards. Chatham completed 15 of 23 passes for 163 yards, including a 76-yard reception to Elijah Hudson that set up scoring opportunities. Running back Chris Bausch added 52 yards on 16 carries to lead the ground attack.

While the Comets fell short, their defensive grit and standout individual performances highlighted their season finale, offering promise for the future and reflecting their commitment to battling until the final whistle.
