Dominate defense from Comets aids in Chaffey win

SAN MARCOS, CA (10/23/21)- On Saturday, the Palomar Comets took on Chaffey College in their sixth game of the season, this time dominating in a 45-10 victory.

Palomar scored four touchdowns in the first quarter, including two touchdowns by defensive back Ricky Davis Jr (Arbor View) who had a 30-yard pick-six and a 28-yard fumble recovery. Zeke Payne (Rancho Bernardo) had two touchdown passes, one in the first quarter to Tyler Pye (Amos P Godby) and one in the fourth quarter to Malachi Russell (El Camino). Chaffey's lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter as Angel Ochoa hit Darion Lee for six points.

Payne went 17-31 for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Ranse Garner (El Camino) led the running backs group with five carries for 27 yards and a touchdown. Malachi Russell led the wide receivers' group with four receptions for 36 yards and one touchdown. Defensive linemen Lance DeSorbo (Escondido) recorded 12 tackles, one sack and three tackles for loss. Linebacker Brandon Wilson (Temecula Canyon) had one tackle and one interception. Kicker Landon Ogles (Rancho Bernardo) booted a 50-yard field goal, a week after breaking the record, and made all 6 extra points.

The Comets put up 246 yards of total offense, 190 yards came from the air and 56 yards came from the ground. The defense gave up 150 yards, 65 yards came from the air and 85 came from the ground. The Comets committed six penalties for 70 yards on the night.

The Comets move to 3-4 on the season and will face Cerritos on the road on October 30th at 6 p.m.
