Football Preview: Week 6
SAN MARCOS, CA (10/13/21)- It is week six of the football season for Palomar, as they face Riverside on the road. The Comets are coming off a 27-31 loss against San Diego Mesa.
Through five games, the Comets average 315 yards of offense while giving up 373 yards on defense. The Comets average 23.4 points a game while giving up 22.8 points per game.
Comets quarterback Zeke Payne (Rancho Bernardo) is coming off a 15-34, 281 yards and three touchdowns performance. Tawee Walker (Cenntennial) leads the running backs group, as he averages 5.2 yards a carry. Brandon Johnson (El Camino) leads the wide receivers group, as he has 11 receptions, 146 yards and three touchdowns.
The Comets defense is led by linebacker Luke Manos (Rancho Bernardo) who has 23 tackles, including six tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Ricky Davis Jr (Arbor View) has three interceptions to lead the Comets defense. Kicker Landon Ogles (Rancho Bernardo) has made all five of his field-goal attempts.
On the opposite side of the field, Riverside quarterback Budd Bernie has hit 54 of 95 passes for 625 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Dean Connors has 200 yards on 38 carries. Wide receiver Marquis Ashley has recorded 14 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns.
Riverside's defense is led by linebacker Noa Purcell, who has notched 16 tackles. Defensive back Carlton Johnson has recorded 11 tackles and an interception. Kicker Ricardo Chavez has made eight field goals and 11 extra points.
The Comets look for their third win of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Riverside on Saturday, October 16th. A negative test within 48 hours of the contest or proof of vaccination is required for spectators.
