Thompson, Armentrout and Griffin receive all-conference honors

SAN MARCOS, CA (12/1/2019) – Palomar had three All-Central League selections for the 2019 season.

Rodney Thompson, a sophomore from St. Augustine, received a first-team all-conference selection. This season he threw for 2835 yards and averaged 283.5 yards a game. He found his way into the record books five times this season. He had a career-high 489 yards against San Diego Mesa College, which is the third-best in program history for a single game. Also, during the Mesa game, he had a 74-yard completion to Isaiah Batton which resulted in a touchdown. Thompson now holds the third-best completions record at 36, also during the Mesa game. He had 35 against Mt. San Antonio College and 33 against Ventura College. Thompson led the conference all season in yards per game. He also finished atop the passing touchdown category at 25 on the season. Thompson was also the leading rusher for the Comets this season. He had a season-high 77 yards on 20 carries against Cerritos College and had 75 yards against El Camino College the week before.

Receivers Johnny Armentrout and Kyran Griffin, a dynamic duo for the Comets this season, received second-team all-conference honors. Armentrout, a sophomore from El Camino High School, had 785 yards on the season and averaged 78.5 yards a game. He is also an addition to the record books this season. He had 183 receiving yards against Fullerton College, 10th best in program history, on 11 receptions, which also lands him in the record book. Armentrout was on the receiving end of one of the longest pass plays in Palomar history at 72 yards from Shea Morales against Southwestern College.

Kyran Griffin finished the season with 754 yards and averaged 75.4 yards a game. He had a season-high 119 yards against Moorpark and had 116 yards on eight receptions against Mesa. Griffin is a freshman from New Orleans, LA.
