
No. 7 Palomar Wins Slugfest Over No. 25 Southwestern, 15-10
SAN MARCOS, CA (4/10/2025)-- In a high-scoring battle at Bob Vetter Field, No. 7 Palomar College outslugged No. 25 Southwestern College 15-10 on Thursday afternoon to even the series at one game apiece.
The Comets (23-10, 14-4 PCAC) racked up 15 hits and 14 RBIs, erupting for six runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take control of a game that saw both teams combine for 25 runs and 30 hits.
Drake Cobb led the offensive explosion, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run double in the sixth. Braedon Peterson-Cheek went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while Brendan Shanahan added three hits and two doubles. Justin Tucker drove in two runs and swiped a base, and Jacob Loving had a two-run single in the sixth.
Palomar took a 3-0 lead through four innings before Southwestern cut the deficit with a three-run fifth. But the Comets responded immediately with back-to-back six-run frames, building a 15-3 lead. Southwestern mounted a late rally with seven runs over the final three innings, but the Comets' cushion proved to be enough.
Ian Mowad (3-3) earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out six. Four Comet pitchers combined to finish the game, with Landon Elliott recording the final out.
The Comets will travel back to Chula Vista for the series finale against Southwestern on Saturday at 1 p.m.
