Comet bats come to life in split with OCC

COSTA MESA, CA (2/16/2023) -- Palomar College and Orange Coast College split their two-game series after the Pirates took game one 11-10 in 10 innings and the Comets took game two 24-4. 

In game two, the Comets were up 14-3 before tacking on seven more in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, sophomore Jack Sanders walked for an RBI. Then sophomore Quincy Scott had a two-run single, followed by freshman Justin Flannery's single to score Sanders. Freshman Ian Halverson followed suit and singled to left field to score Scott. Pete Knorr then reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI and got runners on the corners for the Comets. The final run came when sophomore Erik Larsen reached on a fielder's choice that scored Halverson for an RBI. 

Scott went 5-7 with eight RBI and five runs. Sophomore Caden Szuba finished 4-4 with one RBI and three runs. Sophomore Carter Hain went 2-3 with three RBI, two runs and one walk. Sophomore pitcher Kyle Carr was once again lights out for the Comets. He allowed three runs on four hits in five innings and struck out six batters. Wyatt Hamro came in to pitch two shutout innings and recorded two strikeouts. 

Palomar moves to 5-4 overall and will host LA Pierce College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
