Comets bested by Gauchos in rematch

MISSION VIEJO, CA (2/18/2020) – Palomar headed north to face Saddleback College for their second matchup of the season. The Gauchos took the first game 17-16 in nine innings and turned around to defeat the Comets 12-0 in game two.

The Comets struggled with hitting, having only three hits on the day. Cameron Rowles, Jaisten Cabatbat and Brandon Luna were the only Comets to make a connection with the ball. Cabtabat's lone hit was a triple in the fifth inning following a single by Luna.

Dane Padrnos was the starting pitcher for the Comets pitching five complete innings. He allowed six runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Padrnos was the losing pitcher and moves to 1-3 on the season. Chip Korbacher pitched one inning allowed three runs on four hits with one strikeout. Chris Bryant also pitched one inning and gave up three runs on four hits to go along with one strikeout. Christian Lewis closed out the game for the Comets and allowed one hit, walked one batter and struck out two.

The Comets move to 3-8 overall with three games left before beginning conference play. They will face College of the Desert on Wednesday, Feb. 19 for a 4 p.m. start.
