Vincent Rejoins Padres, Retires Mariners 1-2-3
SAN DIEGO (5-31-2013) -- Former Palomar pitching standout Nick Vincent has been recalled by the San Diego Padres from Tucson of the Pacific Coast League.
He rejoined the Major League club on Thursday and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out one, in a 7-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners at Petco Park.
Vincent sustained a forearm strain in spring training and had been sent to Tucson after his recovery to work his way back from the injury.
Vincent, a Ramona High School product who was drafted by the Padres in the 18th round out of Long Beach State in 2008, was outstanding for the Padres after being called up last season.
The right-hander had a 1.71 earned run average in 27 appearances for the big-league club in 2012, stirking out 28 batters in 26 1/3 innings.
Before being notified he was being called up, Vincent had a 1.80 ERA in the pacific Coast League in his last 10 appearances.
With the Major League Club, Vincent again is reunited with another former Comet, pitching coach Darren Balsley. Balsley has been the club's pitching coach since May 17, 2003.
