Comets lead the pack at ELAC

Comets lead the pack at ELAC

Comets fans, alumni, and supporters,

This past Saturday, we headed up to East Los Angeles College to compete at the Leader of the Pack tournament. We had four of our wrestlers compete at the event:

  • Alexa Rosales (4-1, 2nd place): Alexa looked great this weekend. She has unbelievable quickness and looks better every time she takes the mat. I'm also happy that she is coachable and actively looks to try out new skills.
  • Anastasia Tolentino (1-2):  While she didn't get her desired result, Anastasia is committed to learning from each match and accomplishing short-term goals. I'm proud of her fight in her last match, in which she almost came back and won after being down 6-0.
  • Santana Gonzales (0-2): When she gets a better feel for the collegiate rule set, Santana will be a force to contend with. She has shown rapid improvement and gets after it in each match. I'm eager to see what she can do with a bit more experience!
  • Sierra Mefford (3-0, Champion): Sierra wrestled intelligently and did what she needed to do to win. Despite getting reversed and ridden out to end the first period, Sierra got tough and convincingly dominated the rest of the match. She's right where she needs to be to finish the season strong!

Full tournament results

I am proud of this team for their commitment to preparing for the tournament correctly. Wrestling season can be a grueling mental battle, but they have stayed focused on the right things. I look forward to seeing what they will accomplish in the postseason!

What's Next

Up next, we'll head to Cerritos College on March 30th to take on Cerritos and Fresno City. These will be our program's first-ever dual meets!
