Palomar Women's Water Polo Dominates at Cypress Mini Tournament

 

CYPRESS, CA (9/7/2024) — The Palomar College women's water polo team showcased their offensive firepower at the Cypress College mini tournament, claiming two decisive victories against Southwestern College and Santa Monica College. The Comets opened the tournament with an 18-8 win over Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) opponent Southwestern College, followed by a 13-5 triumph over Santa Monica College.

In the first game against Southwestern, the Comets set the tone early, with standout performances from Ayano Tsuda and Emily Freeman. Tsuda led all scorers with three goals, while Freeman added three of her own. Ruby Jones and Veronica Torres each chipped in two goals to help secure the dominant win. The Comets' defense was anchored by goalkeeper Laura Bodrogi, who tallied 11 saves to stifle Southwestern's offense.

Palomar continued their winning ways in the second game against Santa Monica College. Sophia Wicks led the charge with three goals, and Tsuda once again found the back of the net three times. Freeman contributed two more goals in this match, and the Comets' defense stepped up with 15 steals, led by Ruby Jones and Madalyn McKellar. Bodrogi added another 10 saves to close out the tournament.

With these two victories, Palomar improved to 2-2 on the season.
