Palomar Women's Water Polo Falls in First Two Matches of the Season
SAN MARCOS, CA (9/6/2024) — The Palomar College women's water polo team faced a tough start to their season, dropping their first two matches over the weekend. The Comets lost 13-6 to Mt. San Antonio College and 19-9 to Citrus College in back-to-back games.
In the season opener against Mt. SAC, the Comets struggled to find their rhythm early but saw strong performances from team captain Kennedy Magnusson, who led Palomar with three goals, an assist, two steals, and five blocks. Despite the offensive efforts, Mt. SAC's defense proved difficult to overcome. Madalyn McKellar contributed defensively with four steals and an assist, while goalkeeper Laura Bodrogi made five key saves.
In the second match, the Comets' offensive output improved, but they couldn't keep pace with Citrus College's scoring surge. Emily Freeman and McKellar each netted three goals for Palomar, while Veronica Torres added two goals of her own. Despite their best efforts, Citrus College's relentless attack handed the Comets a 19-9 defeat.
The Comets will look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to Cypress College for another mini tournament.
