Comets claim championship for third consecutive year

CHULA VISTA, CA (11/5/2022) -- Back in the championship match, Palomar faced San Diego Mesa and won 7-6 to claim their third consecutive PCAC Championship.

The Comets, who defeated the Olympians in overtime earlier this season, kept the game close to the very end. They were up 4-3 at halftime and with a scoreless third quarter and a tied fourth quarter, it was the goal in the second quarter, scored by Hannah Morris, that made the difference.

Elena Pena had four goals on the day and two steals. Morris had two goals and one steal. Defensive artists Devyn Wible and Sierra Molina recorded six and four steals, respectively. Anna Draves recorded two assists, along with two steals. Goalie Madelynn Rutherford recorded nine saves on the day.

Palomar moves to 15-7 on the season and went undefeated in the conference for the second consecutive year. This is their best record in program history. They have qualified for the CCCAA SoCal Championship Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College. They will face Golden West College on Thursday at 12:45.
