Comets edge Olympians for first place

SAN DIEGO, CA (10/12/2022) -- In a heated battle, Palomar and San Diego Mesa put on a show of entertainment, but it was Palomar who walked away victorious, a 10-9 overtime win over Mesa.

The Comets had a one-point lead after the first quarter and were tied at halftime. In a dominating third quarter, Mesa jumped up to an 8-6 lead. The Comets weren't done fighting yet. 

Palomar scored first to close the gap to one. Then, Elena Pena tied the game with a 5-meter shot with five minutes to go.

Palomar turned up the heat to maintain their lead and disoriented Mesa to secure not only the win, but also first place in the conference.

Anna Draves finished the day with six goals. Morris found the goal twice and had six exclusions drawn. Pena was lights out on defense once again, finishing the day with four steals and three exclusions drawn. Goalie Madelynn Rutherford had 15 saves on the day.

Palomar moves to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in PCAC play. They will travel to Cerritos College on Friday for a mini tournament. They will face top-seeded West Valley College and host Cerritos.
