Palomar Earns Playoff Spot, Set to Host Santa Monica in First Round

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/21/2024) -- The Palomar College women's volleyball team has reached a milestone, making the playoffs for the first time since 2015. After a season filled with determination, growth, and key victories, the Comets enter the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs as the No. 8 seed. They will host No. 9 Santa Monica College in the first round on Tuesday, November 26, at 7 p.m. in the Dome.

Palomar capped their regular season with a dominant 3-0 sweep over San Diego Miramar College on Sophomore Night. Janell Spires led the team with 10 kills, Brisa and Emma contributed seven kills apiece, and setter Kylana posted 19 assists. Ashlynn added 11 assists, and Cadence Young anchored the defense with 14 digs. This win showcased the Comets' balanced attack and teamwork as they wrapped up an impressive season.

The highlight of Palomar's season, however, came during their stunning 3-0 victory over rival Grossmont College. The win extended their streak to eight consecutive matches, solidifying their position as a rising powerhouse in the region. Setter Ashlynn Craven recorded 29 assists in the match, while Janell Spires delivered a stellar 16-kill performance. Emma Bambe and Teiora Tinoi Samoa played crucial roles in both offense and defense, helping the Comets dominate at the net and shut down Grossmont's attack.

The Comets' blend of skill, resilience, and teamwork has been the driving force behind their success this season. Players like Cadence Young, Sierra Schoenwald, and Mariah Flores have also stepped up in critical moments, showing the depth and versatility of the roster.
