Widdoss and Hoffman highlight conference team

SAN MARCOS, CA (12/1/2021) -- Despite finishing the season 8-12, the Comets landed five players on the All-Conference Team. Earning first team were opposite hitters freshman Casey Widdoss and sophomore Courtney Hoffman. Sophomore setter Alana Lacangan and freshman defensive specialist Sophia Bolivar earned second team. Rounding out the Comets was freshman hitter Masha Molnar with an honorable mention. 

Widdoss and Hoffman brought the heat this season for the Comets off sets from Lacangan. Widdoss led the conference in kills per set, averaging 4.17 a set and she finished the season with 250. She finished the season with 566 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .320. Hoffman finished the season with 150 kills and averaged 2.38 a set. She had 431 total attacks and finished with a hitting percentage of .211. Widdoss and Hoffman delivered at the service line as well racking up 12 and 19 service aces, respectively. The duo were also the best blockers on the team. Widdoss had eight solo blocks and 20 assisted for a total of 28, while Hoffman had six solo and 11 assisted for a total of 17 blocks on the season. 

Lacangan dished out 394 assists this season, averaging 6.25 assists a set. She served up 12 service aces and took 135 digs this season. Bolivar served as the libero for the Comets this season and was a key component in the back row. She had 207 digs and averaged 3.29 a set. Bolivar was another big server for the team as she tallied 21 service aces. 

Molnar brought the energy for the Comets both on and off the court. The outside hitter finished with 300 total attacks and 87 kills for a hitting percentage of .117. She finished with nine blocks.
