
Comets Keep Pushing Forward at Cerritos Invitational
NORWALK, CA (4/12/2025) -- The Palomar College women's track and field team continued their spring slate with a determined effort at the Cerritos Invitational. The Comets put together a balanced showing on the track and in the field, highlighted by top-10 finishes and a strong relay performance.
In the 800 meters, Hannah Strate led the Palomar group with a time of 2:58.58 to finish 25th, followed closely by Brianna Figueroa in 26th (2:59.72) and Jazmyn Brinkman in 27th (3:24.16). Strate returned later in the day to post one of the team's top finishes, placing 6th in the 5000 meters with a time of 22:18.99.
Palomar's 4x400-meter relay team—Roxana Contreras, Hannah Strate, Kyara Emanuel, and Lauren Gonzalez—ran 5:28.91 to take 5th place and gain valuable experience as a unit.
In the field events, Roxana Contreras had a strong day, placing 3rd in the pole vault (2.45m), 4th in the high jump (1.35m), and 5th in the javelin (26.99m), continuing to be a versatile force for the Comets.
The throws crew also made an impact. Morgan Fornof competed in four events, finishing 10th in the shot put (8.17m), 15th in the discus (26.71m), 14th in the hammer (21.83m), and 10th in the javelin (23.20m). Sophia Wicks placed 12th in the shot put (7.83m), 14th in the discus (26.78m), 16th in the hammer (18.18m), and 15th in the javelin (17.62m). Fialupe Vaivai matched Wicks with 7.83m in the shot put (12th), threw 32.12m to take 7th in the discus, placed 15th in the hammer (21.72m), and earned an 8th-place finish in the javelin (24.85m).
Lauren Gonzalez also joined the javelin lineup, throwing 17.21m to finish 16th.
Palomar will now set their sights on the PCAC Championships being held at San Diego Mesa College.
