
Track & Field Shows Growth at Riverside Early Bird Meet
RIVERSIDE, CA (2/7/2025) -- The Palomar College women's track and field team continued its early-season progress with strong individual performances at the RCC Early Bird Meet on February 7, highlighted by personal bests and event improvements across the board.
Freshman Roxana Contreras continued her dominant form in the pole vault, earning second place with a new personal best of 2.63 meters (8' 7.5"), an improvement from her winning mark at the Orange Coast meet. She also finished eighth in the long jump (4.42m) and competed in the javelin.
In the distance events, Michelle Aguilar shaved nearly a minute off her 1500-meter time from the OCC meet, running 6:13.49 in the mile (approximately 1609 meters). Lauren Gonzalez also ran the mile in 6:14.77, following her strong season debut. Hannah Strate extended her endurance efforts, finishing the 2-mile run in 14:08.79.
Jazmyn Brinkman made her debut in the 600 meters, clocking a 2:17.15 in the challenging middle-distance race.
In the throws, Fialupe Vaivai improved her discus mark from the OCC meet, throwing 33.21 meters (108' 11") to earn seventh place. She also recorded 8.41m (27' 7.25") in the shot put and 13.34m (43' 9") in the javelin.
Morgan Fornof turned in a notable personal best in the shot put with a mark of 9.19 meters (30' 2")—surpassing her third-place throw from the season opener. She also improved in the discus (29.69m) and continued competing in the javelin. Sophia Wicks improved her shot put distance to 7.96m and threw 22.89m in the discus.
The Comets return to action in a few weeks at the Cuyamaca Invitational as they continue to build momentum heading into the heart of the 2025 campaign.
