Comets jump out to early lead but fall to Dons

SAN MARCOS (9-02-2017) -- Improving over its play in a season-opening loss to Southwestern, Palomar jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against non-conference oponent Santa Ana in its home opener on Friday at Minkoff Field.

Michelle Skupnjak split two defenders directly in front of the Dons' net and kicked the ball past goalkeeper Brianna Martinez in the third minute. But the Dons came back to win the game 2-1.

Leilani Diefenbach, who tallied Palomar's toal against the Jaguars in the Comets' season opener, assisted on Skupnjak's goal. Palomar got of six shots on goal against the Dons.

Goalkeeper Rosa Lopez recorded four saves in the net for coach Hector Hernandez's PC side. The Comets are 0-2 on the season, while Santa Ana advances to 2-0.
