WALNUT, CA (9/21/2024) -- The Palomar College wrestling team made an impressive mark at the Mt. San Antonio College Duals on Saturday, securing the tournament championship with an undefeated run in Pool B and an intense final cross match victory against Mt. SAC (Maroon). Hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, the event featured top California community college teams in a series of dual meets.
Dominant Pool B Performance
Palomar emerged as the top team in Pool B, starting off strong with a decisive 33-12 win over Mt. SAC (White). Highlights included a technical fall at 141 lbs by Diego Peraza, a major decision from Caden Hanover at 125 lbs, and a powerful pin by Ivan Natceli at 184 lbs. Palomar followed this up with a flawless 57-0 victory over Sierra College (RED), showing the depth and talent of their lineup as they recorded seven pins, including a 33-second fall by Zachary Hudlow at 165 lbs.
Championship Cross Match: Palomar vs. Mt. SAC (Maroon)
Palomar clinched the tournament championship in a nail-biting 24-17 win against Mt. SAC (Maroon) in the final cross match. Hanover set the tone with a major decision victory at 125 lbs, followed by Peraza's technical fall at 141 lbs. Though Mt. SAC (Maroon) fought back with pins and decisions in the middle weights, Palomar's upper weights rose to the occasion. DJ Weimer secured a critical decision at 174 lbs, while Natceli and heavyweight Mustafa Farha delivered clutch wins to secure Palomar's overall victory.
