Comets start season strong

Comets family and friends,

This past weekend we wrestled at the Santa Ana Invitational, our first competition of the year. This was an excellent start to the season, as I thought the team put forth an outstanding effort from top to bottom at a highly competitive event.

We finished in 4th place out of 12 teams:

  1. Mt. San Antonio
  2. Sacramento City
  3. Cerritos
  4. Palomar
  5. Victor Valley
  6. Bakersfield
  7. Rio Hondo
  8. Santa Ana
  9. Moorpark
  10. West Hills
  11. Cuesta
  12. East Los Angeles

While we are not quite catching the perennial leaders just yet, it's encouraging to see us continue to climb the ladder. To put things into perspective, we scored 21.5 points at this event in 2021 and 46.5 points last season, whereas this year we scored 102.

We had five individual medalists:

The guys did their job and battled tough against some of the top competitors in the state. We went up against several returning state champs/#1 ranked opponents early on and took them to the limit. What I'm most happy with is the fact that they are hungry to get another shot at them soon. We're just getting started.

Up next, we'll be at Victor Valley this Wednesday for a tri-meet with them and Cuesta College. I'm looking forward to an interesting matchup with Victor Valley, who has a talented squad.
