Palomar Dominates Southwestern to Stay Unbeaten in PCAC

SAN MARCOS, CA (1/17/2025) -- The Palomar College women's basketball team delivered a commanding 82-26 win over Southwestern College on Wednesday night, improving to 12-6 overall and 4-0 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play. The Comets used a suffocating defense and a balanced offensive attack to secure the decisive victory at home.

Angeline Valdivia led the charge with a game-high 17 points, including five three-pointers, while Dayvis Key provided a spark off the bench with 15 points and 13 rebounds for an impressive double-double. Nevaeh Mageo added 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers, and Kailani Flournoy chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds, recording her second consecutive double-double.

The Comets' defense was relentless, holding Southwestern to just 18% shooting from the field and 12.5% from beyond the arc. Palomar forced 32 turnovers, turning them into 33 points, and controlled the boards with a 57-37 rebounding advantage. Their bench was also a key factor, contributing 38 points compared to just two from Southwestern's reserves.

After a close first quarter, the Comets exploded in the third, outscoring Southwestern 33-5 to put the game well out of reach. Palomar's efficiency from the free-throw line (6-of-6) and their dominance in the paint (32 points) further highlighted their complete performance.

With this win, Palomar remains unbeaten in conference play and will host Imperial Valley College next, where they will have a shot at the top spot in the PCAC standings. The game is set for a critical showdown as the Comets look to maintain their momentum and continue their impressive run.
