IRVINE, CA (11/1/2024) -- The Palomar College women's basketball team kicked off their season in impressive fashion, defeating Irvine Valley 66-56 on the road. Palomar put on a balanced display of scoring and defense, with multiple players contributing to their season-opening win.
Kylee Trujillo led the Comets with a standout performance, scoring 14 points, including three three-pointers and three of four from the free-throw line. Angelina De Leon also made a significant impact with 12 points, showing efficiency by hitting six of her nine field goal attempts. Teanna Alaman added 13 points, while Brooke Quintana contributed across the board, grabbing four rebounds and tallying two steals.
Palomar's defensive intensity played a key role in their success, as they scored 29 points off turnovers and secured 15 second-chance points. The team's collective rebounding effort was strong, with Angeline Valdivia leading with eight boards. The Comets also took advantage of their opportunities in the paint, outscoring Irvine Valley 34-28 in close-range baskets.
