Comets showoff in home opener

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/18/2022) -- In their home opener, Palomar College faced Allan Hancock and won 69-38 in front of a packed Dome.

The Comets put on a spectacle for their home crowd in the first quarter as Camille Sroufe forced a turnover and went down to score the first points of the game only then to do the exact same thing and pass the ball to Faith Schwantner for a three that sent the Comet Crazies into a frenzy. It was all gas and no breaks for the first 10 minutes as the Comets jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter after forcing 16 turnovers. They went on to score 22 more in the second to take a 44-20 halftime lead. In the second half the Comets let up a little, but not much, scoring only 25 points in the final 20 minutes of play, an unusually low number for the high-octane offense the Comets are known for.

It's just sophomore's Deajanae Harvey's world and we're all just living it in as she put up 27 points, going 11-18 in the field and 4-7 beyond the arc, nabbed nine rebounds, totaled three assists and five steals. Through four games this season, this is Harvey's least amount of points scored. Sophomore Kayla Williams put up 15 points and had four offensive rebounds to go along with two steals. Sroufe finished the night with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Palomar moves to 4-0 on the season and will face East Los Angeles College at 6 p.m. in the Dome on day of the Comet Classic Crossover on Saturday night.
