Comets squeak past Vikings

HEMET, CA (11/10/2022) -- No. 1 Palomar College faced No. 6 Long Beach City College on day one of the Lion's Club Tip-Off at Mt. San Jacinto College and won 93-89 in a game that went down to the wire.

The Comets had a two-point lead after the first quarter and tacked on another 23 to take a 52-48 halftime lead. The Vikings took the third quarter, outscoring the Comets 23-16 to take the lead. The Comets had just enough left in the tank to win.  

Sophomore Camille Sroufe tied the program record with nine made three-pointers going 9-18 in the field en route to 28 points. Sophomore Deajaenae Harvey led the Comets with 29 points going 11-24 in the field and finishing with her first double-double of the season as she totaled 11 assists. She finished the night with eight rebounds and two blocks. Kayla Williams, a sophomore forward, ended the night with nine rebounds and 17 points to round out the double-digit scorers. 

As a team, Palomar shot 43.6 percent in the field and 37 percent at the three-point line. They racked up 37 rebounds and totaled 20 assists.

Palomar moves to 2-0 and will face Mt. San Jacinto tomorrow on day two of the Lion's Club Tip-Off for a 5 p.m. start time.
