Comets cap off perfect conference season with win over Knights

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/18/2022) -- No. 5 Palomar College pushed past the San Diego City College Knights 91-37 to cap off a perfect conference season. 

The women jumped out to a quick 33-7 lead after the first quarter of play and tacked on another 26 points before the half. Freshman guard Deajanae Harvey led all Comets with 19 pints, while sophomore forward/guard Sara Ahmadpour finsihed with 16 and sophomore forward had 13. 

The Comet defense proved effective once again as the Comets stole the ball 18 times, blocked six shots and finished with 33 defensive rebounds. 

This season, the Comets held their conference opponents to a whopping 24.9 field goal percentafe and 17.8 3-point percentage. They averaged 18 steals and 46.3 rebounds. On the offensive side, the Comets shot 45.6 percent in the field and 32.2 at the 3-point line. Palomar dished the ball an average of 18.7 times a game to lead the confernece and committed the fewest turnovers at 13.5. Freshman forward Kayla Williams had the best field goal percentage in the conference, shooting 59.7 percent. 

The Comets finish their regular season 24-2, with losses coming from No. 3 Mt. San Antonio College and No. 5 Irvine Valley College. Palomar will now wait until Feb. 26 to see what they are seeded in the CCCAA State Playoffs.
