Perfect Run, Big Rewards: Palomar Lands 14 All-PCAC Selections

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/29/2025) -- The postseason accolades rolled in for the Palomar College softball team after a perfect 15-0 run through Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play, with the Comets dominating the All-Conference selections and sweeping the league's top honors.

Sophomore Breanna Lutz repeated as PCAC Player of the Year, continuing her reign as one of the most dangerous hitters in the state. The infielder posted a scorching .569 batting average in conference play, recording 29 hits, 25 runs scored, and 20 RBIs. Her power was on full display as she notched eight doubles, three triples, and three home runs, finishing with a 1.020 slugging percentage and a .645 on-base percentage. A leader on and off the field, Lutz anchored a Comet lineup that averaged nearly 11 runs per game against conference opponents.

In the circle, sophomore Madison Bedolla was untouchable, earning PCAC Pitcher of the Year honors. She went 5-0 and did not allow a single earned run across 27 innings, giving up just six hits while striking out 39 batters. Opposing hitters managed just a .069 average against her as Bedolla consistently set the tone for the Comets' pitching staff.

Head coach Lacey Craft was named Coach of the Year after guiding Palomar to an undefeated conference championship and the program's 11th straight PCAC title. Under Craft's leadership, Palomar outscored opponents 159-7 during conference play and will head into the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the Southern California Regional.

The Comets also led the way with eight players named to the First Team All-PCAC. Alongside Lutz and Bedolla was Lauren Doepping, who hit an outstanding .571 with 14 RBIs and a 1.000 slugging percentage, adding power and production in the middle of the lineup. Zoe Karam was a force both offensively and defensively, batting .500 while driving in 18 runs and recording a perfect fielding percentage at first base.

Alexis Huey proved to be one of Palomar's most explosive hitters, slashing .537 with four triples, 17 RBIs, and 22 hits in just 11 conference games. In the circle, Nevaeh Haywood provided a dominant second option behind Bedolla, finishing 8-0 with a 1.32 ERA across 37 innings, striking out 44 while allowing just 17 hits.

Taylor Armstrong, who patrolled left field, was one of the team's most consistent hitters, batting .465 with 20 hits and 14 RBIs. She was perfect defensively, recording a 1.000 fielding percentage. Josephine Heuberger rounded out Palomar's first-team selections, hitting .500 with 21 hits, four triples, and 13 RBIs, giving the Comets yet another major offensive weapon.

Three more Comets earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Gisele Gonzalez, Palomar's centerfielder, started all 15 conference games and contributed 15 hits and 12 RBIs while playing error-free defense. Nalia Nuanez gave the lineup a major boost with her ability to get on base, hitting .433 with a .564 OBP and scoring 20 runs. Samantha Garcia, who played right field, was another key bat, hitting .393 and driving in 16 runs while also fielding flawlessly.

Two Comets were recognized with Honorable Mention awards. Dominique Garcia contributed behind the plate and in the outfield, batting .471 in limited appearances and handling her defensive assignments perfectly. Kayla Visser, Palomar's backup catcher, also delivered key innings defensively while batting .313.

With 14 players honored and all three major conference awards staying in San Marcos, Palomar has once again solidified its place as the PCAC's premier program. The Comets now turn their attention to the postseason, where they will look to continue their dominant run in pursuit of a state championship. The action gets underway on Friday, May 2nd, when the No. 3-seeded Comets will host No. 14 College of the Canyons at 2 p.m.
