Comets roll on, down Dons

SANTA ANA, CA. (3/9/2024) – Adding another road trip to a week of road trips, the Palomar College softball team continued its winning ways Saturday with an 11-1 victory over Santa Ana in a contest shortened to five innings by the mercy-run rule.

Originally scheduled as a home game, the non-conference matchup was moved to Santa Ana after recent rains left Bradley Park unavailable. In March alone, Palomar has had three home games rescheduled due to unplayable grounds at Bradley Park, the Comets' temporary home venue while work is being completed at the new facility on campus.

A third road trip in five days did not deter the state's third-ranked team as Palomar improved to 16-1 on the season with its win against the Dons (3-10). The Comets trailed 1-0 going into the fifth inning before batting around in the top of the fifth and scoring 11 runs for their most productive inning of the season.

The Comets will bring an eight-game win streak into their next Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game, scheduled for March 13 at San Diego City. Palomar will have back-to-back home games March 15-16 at Bradley Park, hosting Grossmont in a PCAC contest and Cerritos in a non-conference meeting with both games starting at 1 p.m.
