Caldwell and Amato All-State; Terrazas All-SoCal

SAN MARCOS, CA (6/1/2022) -- Palomar College Softball landed two All-State and one All-SoCal player at this year's annual voting. Infielder Allyson Amato and pitcher India Caldwell received the All-State awards while outfielder Alexia Terrazas received All-SoCal. Amato and Terrazas were also named NFCA All-Americans, landing on the 13-player Cal-JC South team. 

Caldwell (Mission Vista), a dominant force in the circle for the Comets this season, started 25 games. She finished the season with an 18-4 record, a conference-best in wins, and collected one save which came on the Comets' comeback win against Ventura College to propel them to the Super Regional Playoff round. In 147.1 innings pitched this year, Caldwell recorded 152 strikeouts and had an ERA of 0.86. She allowed 97 hits this season, 12 doubles, and five triples, but didn't allow a single home run. Opponents his .192 off her. Not only could she pitch, but she also played defense from within the circle. She recorded five putouts and 20 assists. Caldwell had three 10+ strikeout games this season, two against Imperial Valley College and one against Ventura in the Regional Playoff round. She recorded 14 against Imperial Valley. Caldwell also threw one no-hitter this season. 

 

Amato combined power and speed to do her part on offense for the Comets. A Mission Hills alum, Amato finished the season with a .475 batting average but was the best in the state throughout the season. In 139 at-bats, Amato recorded 66 hits (13 doubles and four triples). She hit her only home run of the season against Ventura College. She had 15 stolen bases on the season, with a season-high two against Cypress College in the regular season. In the field, Amato was a stud at third for the Comets, recording 28 putouts and 88 assists, including four double plays. Amato had a conference-best batting average and the most stolen bases. She was named the PCAC Player-of-the Year. 

 

Terrazas (Shadow Hills), worked her way through the batting order and ended the season in the first third of the order. In 106 at-bats, she had 36 hits, in which she recorded eight doubles, two triples and four home runs en route to 24 RBI. Another speedster, Terrazas finished the season with five stolen bases. Her four home runs were second-best on the team. She finished the season with a .340 batting average and drew eight walks on the season. The ball flew her way 36 times in the outfield in which she recorded a perfect fielding percentage with 36 putouts.
