Comets swing past Jaguars with ease

BAKERSFIELD, CA (5/17/2019) – In the first round of the CCCAA Softball State Tournament, Palomar defeated San Jose City College 11-3 in five innings.

The Comets scored four runs in the first inning on a two-out rally.

In the second inning, the Comets scored six runs. Kylie Pignone (2-4) started it off with a single and Megan Wachholtz (1-3) had a sacrifice bunt to move Pignone to second. After an RBI single from Sarah Fisher (3-4) and a walk from Samantha Renteria (1-2), Kendall Kates hit a three-run bomb to make the score 8-0, her third on the season. Allie Hughen (3-4) singled and Rylee Penrod (2-4) had an RBI double. Jillian Zamora (2-3) got in on the scoring too with an RBI single.

Fisher had a solo home run in the third inning.

In the pitcher's circle, Hughen pitched the first two innings and had one hit and three strikeouts against the seven batters she faced. Catalina Aguilar pitched the last three innings and had four hits, three runs, including a home run, and two strikeouts. She faced 14 batters.

Due to weather, Palomar will play at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow morning against Mt. SAC.
