Softball has little issue with Canyons, extends win streak to 14

SAN MARCOS, CA (4/20/2019) – In the first of two games, Palomar defeated College of the Canyons 4-0.

All four runs came in the first inning. With runners on in the first inning, Kendall Kates (0-3) advanced to second on an error by the third baseman, Rylee Penrod (0-4) advanced to third and Megan Wachholtz (1-2) scored an unearned run. Samantha Renteria (2-3) had a single and brought Kates and Penrod home. Taylor Riley (0-3) reached first on an error by the second baseman and Allie Hughen (2-3) advanced to third while Renteria scored.

Hughen pitched a no-hitter and had 12 strikeouts and two walks.

 

GAME TWO – In game two of the doubleheader, Palomar beat Canyons 12-1 in five innings.

Catalina Aguilar pitched four innings and had four strikeouts and gave up two hits. Audrey Braun pitched the last inning and had one strikeout and gave up two hits and one run.

Kendall Kates singled in the first inning and was credited an RBI when Megan Wachholtz scored. Rylee Penrod had a single and Kates scored.

In the second inning, with the bases loaded, Sarah Fisher singled and brought Jillian Zamora home. Samantha Renteria singled next and scored Kylie Pignone, Kates followed and brought Wachholtz home. Allie Hughen singled next and scored Fisher. Hughen then stole second and Renteria scored.

In the third inning, Renteria doubled and scored Pignone and then Kates reached first on an error by the second baseman and Renteria scored.

The Comets' final conference game is Tuesday at Imperial Valley. Game time is at 3 p.m.
