Comets take down No. 1 ranked Cypress in doubleheader
SAN MARCOS, CA (4/6/2019) GAME ONE – Palomar defeated the No. 1 ranked Cypress College 7-1 in the first game of the day.
Mary Nejo (1-4) singled in the first inning to bring Kylie Pignone (3-4) home, followed by a Kendall Kates (1-1) sacrifice fly to bring Sarah Fisher (3-4) home.
In the third inning, Fisher had a two-run home run, which was then followed by a Rylee Penrod (1-3) single to bring in another run. The next inning, Fisher had a double and other RBI.
Allie Hughen pitched all seven innings and had nine strikeouts, eight hits and one run.
GAME TWO – In game two, the Comets beat the Chargers 6-3.
The Comets were down 3-1 going into the fourth inning when Rylee Penrod (1-3) had a three-run homer to make it 4-3. Megan Wachholtz (1-3) then had a double and an RBI.
In the sixth inning, Sarah Fisher had a single and an RBI to make the score 6-3.
Catalina Aguilar pitched 5.1 innings and had four strikeouts, nine hits and three runs. Allie Hughen pitched the remainder of the game and had 1 strikeout and no hits.
The Comets will be back in action on Tuesday at Riverside for a nonconference game. First pitch will be at 3 p.m.
