Unbeaten Chargers End PC's Year At 30-13

CYPRESS (5-14-2017) -- Another outstanding softball season came to an abrupt end for Palomar on Sunday as unbeaten Cypress turned back the Comets 11-4 in the championship game of the Cypress Super Regional.

The Chargers, who survived a huge scare by the Comets in a winners' bracket game on Saturday before finally winning 3-2 in nine innings, advanced to 45-0 on the season as they moved into the CCCAA State Championship Final Four next weekend in Bakersfield. Palomar's season ended at 30-13.

The Comets outhit Cypress 13-12 in Sunday's loss behind a big day at the plate by Mo Lopez, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs.

Brie Dunckel went 2-for-5 as she finished as Palomar's second-leading hitter on the season with a .473 average. Madisyn Turman was 2-for-4 and was the Comets' leading hitter on the year with a .490 average.

Taylor Fa'asua also turned in a multiple-hit performance, going 2-for-4 and driving in a run. Tiere Paopao, Crystal DesLauriers, Dionne Macias and Lexi Williams also hit safely.

The 2017 Comets won their sixth straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship and 34th conference title in the history of the program, going 16-0 in conference play.
