Palomar Splits 2 Games With Visiting Canyons

SAN MARCOS (4-22-2017) -- Palomar, which won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship with a victory on Friday over San Diego Mesa, returned to its home field Saturday and split a non-confence doubleheader with College of the Canyons.

The Comets scored seven runs in the second inning to beat the Cougars 13-4 in a 5-inning run-rule game. Canyons came back to win the second game 9-5.

In the first-game victory, Brie Dunckel went 3-for-4 for Palomar, driving in a run and stealing 2 bases. Bailey Romano went 2-for-4, doubled and had 4 RBIs. Dionne Macias was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBIs. And Madisyn Turman went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Taylor Willis contributed a 2-run home run. Mo Lopez singled and drove in 2 runs. Marisa Herrera singled and stole 2 bases. Brooke Hanava and Lexi Williams each added a single.

Winnng pitcher Crystal DesLauriers (1905) scattered 6 hits.

Macias went 3-for-4, doubled and drove in a run in the second-game loss. Turman also went 3-for-4, driving in 3 runs.

Dunckel tripled and had an RBI and her 27th steal of the season. Lopez doubled and drove in a run. Romano and DesLauriers each added a single, rounding out a 10-hit attack.

Palomar  is 25-11, while Canyons fell to 28-10-1. The Comets will close out the regular season on Tuesday at 3 p.m. when they play a PCAC game at Mt. San Jacinto.
