DesLauriers, Turman Share PCAC Women's Athlete Of The Week Honors

SAN DIEGO (5-16-2017) -- Palomar College softball players Crystal DesLauries and Madisyn Turman have been honored as Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Women’s Athletes of the Week for May 8-14.

DesLauries, the Comets’ freshman right-hander from Mission Hills High School who is the PCAC Pitcher of the Year and a first-team all-state selection, threw a complete-game three-hitter against unbeaten Cypress as the Comets gave the Chargers a huge scare in the Cypress Super Regional before losing 3-2 in nine innings.

DesLauries also pitched a complete-game 4-3 victory over defending state champion Santiago Canyon and slugged two home runs, driving in three runs, as the Comets beat Santiago Canyon again 8-7 later in the Super Regional. She also singled as Palomar fell just short of a trip to the CCCAA State Championship Final Four when Cypress downed Comets in the championship game to advance to 45-0 on the season.

DeLauries compiled a 24-7 win-loss record for the year, striking out 187 batters in 186 2/3 innings. She also hit .324 with seven doubles, a triple and four home runs as Palomar went 30-13 on the year and 16-0 in the PCAC in winning its sixth straight conference title and the 34th championship in program history.

Turman, a sophomore designated player/utility player from Clovis North High School and a transfer from Cal State San Marcos, went 8-for-14 in the Super Regional, going 3-for-3 vs. Santiago Canyon, 1-for 3 with a walk in the 3-2 loss to Cypress, 2-for-4 with a double in the rematch with Santiago Canyon and 2-for-4 in the championship game against the Chargers.

She was the leading Palomar hitter on the season with a .490 average.
