Cypress Is 44-0 After Beating Comets In 9 Innings 3-2

CYPRESS (5-13-2017) -- Cypress College advanced to 44 wins and 0 losses for the 2017 softball season on Saturday, but not without a huge scare from Palomar in the winners' bracket of the double-elimination Cypress Super Regional.

Crystal DesLauriers threw a three-hitter at the Chargers, who scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to hand the Comets a 3-2 loss.

Palomar (29-12) had opened Super Regional play on Friday by beating defending state community college champion Santiago Canyon 4-3. The Comets will play an elimination game later Saturday afternoon against the winner of a losers' bracket game between College of the Canyons and Santiago Canyon.

In Saturday morning's game, the Comets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Chargers went in front 2-1 in the top of the third and Palomar came back to tie the game in the sixth inning.

For Palomar, Mo Lopez went 2-for-4 with a double. Tiare Paopao had an RBI single, and Sarah Rodriguez contributed a pinch-hit double in the bottom of the ninth but was left stranded. Bailey Romano, Madisyn Turmanand Dionne Macias each had a single.

DesLauriers continually pitched her way out of trouble that consisted of walks and hit batters.
