Palomar College Opens Swim Season with Strong Showing at Waterman Pentathlon

SAN MARCOS, CA (2/7/2025) -- Palomar College swim teams made a splash in their season opener, hosting the Waterman Pentathlon and delivering a series of impressive performances. Both the men's and women's squads demonstrated their depth and talent in the multi-event competition.

Men's Highlights

Leading the way for the Comets was Lei Jin, who showcased his versatility by claiming victories in multiple events, including the 100-yard IM (1:04.49), 50-yard freestyle (26.55), 50-yard butterfly (28.22), and 50-yard backstroke (30.44). His dominant effort set the tone for Palomar's men's team.

Brian Otto followed closely behind with strong performances in the 100-yard IM (1:06.91) and 50-yard freestyle (27.10). James Ellsworth and Kameron Lypps also contributed solidly to the team's success, rounding out the top performers for Palomar.

Women's Highlights

On the women's side, Ruby Jones delivered an exceptional performance, excelling in the 50-yard freestyle (27.39) and the 100-yard IM (1:09.82), proving to be a key competitor for the Comets.

Tiana Timmons and Emily Freeman were also standout swimmers, with Timmons finishing the 100-yard IM in 1:14.43 and Freeman posting a time of 30.04 in the 50-yard freestyle. Devyn Wible and Isabella Moncada rounded out Palomar's top finishers.

Looking Ahead

With the season now in full swing, Palomar College will look to build on this strong opening meet as they prepare for upcoming conference competitions. The team's depth and early-season form suggest a promising year ahead in the pool.
