Emma Thomas Wins State 100 Fly; PC 6th

MONTEREY PARK (5-06-2017) -- Palomar's women's swimming team placed sixth out of 31 teams while the Comets' Emma Thomas won the 200-yard butterfly at the CCCAA State Swimming & Diving Championships that concluded a 3-day run on Saturday.

Thomas (left) swam a 2:04.87 in defeating runner-up Mary Fahidnia of West Valley. The two battled for 150 yards before Thomas drew away after the final turn.

Thomas also took second in the 100 butterfly and finished eighth in the 100 backstroke.

Also for the PC women's team, Michelle Jacob placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley events. Jordann Heimback was fifth in the 200 butterfly and seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Rebekah Balckburn, Sydney Thomas, Jacob and Emma Thomas swam  3:37.55 to give Palomar a third in the 400 freestyle relay, and the Comets also took seventh in the 800 medley relay.

In the men's portion of the meet, the Comets' Connor Baine finished 12th in the 100 backstroke.

Serra won the women's team title with 470 points, with San Diego Mesa second with 322 points. Palomar scored 263 points in placing sixth.

In the men's meet, Golden West won the team title with 573 points. Palomar was 28th of 30 teams with 18 points.
