SAN MARCOS, CA (11/18/2024) -- The Palomar College men's soccer team has secured a spot in the postseason as the No. 23 seed, culminating a season defined by resilience and growth. The Comets, who finished with a 6-9-5 overall record, will travel to face No. 10 Cuyamaca College on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. playoff showdown.

Palomar's season was marked by standout individual performances and strong team efforts. Arturo Atilano-Gutierrez led the Comets' attack with an impressive 10 goals, consistently finding ways to break through opposing defenses. Atilano-Gutierrez's ability to create scoring opportunities and finish in high-pressure moments proved invaluable throughout the year.

Supporting him was Felix Hamm, who not only contributed four goals but also tallied a team-high four assists. Hamm's versatility, vision, and playmaking abilities made him a key figure in Palomar's offensive strategies. His connection with teammates like Anthony Harte and Artem Sydorenko often opened up space and created critical scoring chances.

Midfielder Anthony Harte provided crucial moments of brilliance, including game-tying goals in late-game scenarios. His composure under pressure and knack for being in the right place at the right time were instrumental to the Comets' success.

On the defensive end, Amanueal Kidanemariam was a stalwart in goal, making 46 saves across the season. Kidanemariam's quick reflexes and leadership from the back kept Palomar competitive in tight matches. Key contributions from defenders such as Christian Shaw and Efren Mendez added stability to the team's backline, demonstrating a commitment to strong, organized defense.

Throughout the season, the Comets displayed their determination and teamwork, earning critical wins and draws that highlighted their growth and potential. The team's ability to rally in challenging moments, as seen in their comeback win over Santiago Canyon and their dominant 5-1 victory against Southwestern College, speaks to their character and readiness for high-stakes competition.

Head coach [Coach's Name] praised the team's development and expressed pride in their accomplishments. "This season has been about perseverance and growth. Our players have stepped up time and time again, and earning a playoff spot is a reflection of their hard work. We're excited for the challenge ahead and ready to give it our all."
