SAN MARCOS, CA (9/27/2024) — Palomar College men's soccer started Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 victory over San Diego City College on Friday afternoon, extending their winning streak to three games.
After a tightly contested first half, the Comets broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when Artem Sydorenko found the back of the net. Efren Mendez provided the crucial assist, setting Sydorenko up for a composed finish to give Palomar a 1-0 lead.
Just five minutes later, Arturo Atilano-Gutierrez doubled Palomar's advantage, scoring in the 70th minute to continue his impressive scoring form this season.
San Diego City College managed to prevent a shutout, scoring in the 90th minute, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Comets' solid performance.
Palomar controlled much of the match and capitalized on their key opportunities. With this win, the Comets are off to a strong start in conference play and will look to build on their momentum as the season progresses.
The Comets return to action next week as they continue their conference campaign against San Diego Mesa College and MiraCosta College.
