SAN BERNARDINO, CA (8/27/2024) — The Palomar College men's soccer team kicked off their season with a spirited performance on August 27, 2024, against San Bernardino Valley. Despite a 3-1 loss, the Comets displayed determination and potential that bodes well for the rest of the season.
Palomar started strong, with midfielder Matt Esposito scoring the opening goal in the 9th minute, thanks to a well-placed assist from forward Arturo Atilano-Gutierrez. The early strike showcased Palomar's offensive capabilities and set the tone for a competitive match.
Goalkeepers Pablo Aldeco and Amanuel Kidanemariam split time in goal, with Aldeco making four saves in the first half and Kidanemariam adding six saves in the second. Both keepers held their ground against a determined San Bernardino offense, showing resilience under pressure.
The Comets' defense, led by players like Efren Mendez and Alexis Barrientos, worked tirelessly throughout the match. Though they faced a strong attacking side, the defense's coordination and grit kept Palomar in the game.
Palomar will look to build on this performance as they host Pasadena City College on Friday, August 30, at 1:30 p.m. for their home opener.
