Palomar flys past Imperial Valley

SAN MARCOS, CA (10/13/2023) -- After suffering their first conference loss on Tuesday, the Palomar Comets needed to respond with a win and a 7-0 victory over Imperial Valley College did that.

As usual, the Comets didn't hesitate to be aggressive in the box. Freshman Arturo Atilano-Gutierrez scored first on an assist from Rin Sato at the seven-minute mark. Then Jovanni Colin extended the lead on an unassisted goal. It was Atilano-Gutierrez who scored goal number three for the Comets off a pass from Maximilian Drexler. With a 3-0 lead at halftime, the Comets didn't let up. Atilano-Gutierrez completed the hat trick off a pass from Colin to take a 4-0 lead. Kevin Barragan then scored off another assist from Colin in the 56th minute and Artur Trifol followed it up with another two minutes later. The final goal came from Matt Esposito in the 63rd minute on an assist from Atilano-Gutierrez.

Palomar moved to 6-3-5 overall and finished the first round of conference play with a 3-1-2 record. They will be back in action next Friday when they host San Diego City College at 7 p.m. on Minkoff Field.
