Comets defeat Knights in conference opener

SAN DIEGO, CA (9/26/2023) -- The Palomar College Men's Soccer Team opened their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-2 win on Tuesday afternoon on the road.

The Comets scored early in the first half when Elijah Ceballos scored off an assist from Lucas Meirelles to take an early lead. They followed up with another goal, this time by Artur Trifol from Maximilian Drexler to extend the lead at the 35-minute mark. 

The Knights made some adjustments in the second half and tied the game at two with 30 minutes left to play. Palomar kept building and buidling and were able to score in extra time as Karl Kortz connected on a pass from Meirelles to win the game 3-2. 

Palomar finished with 19 shots and totaled six corner kicks. Goalkeeper Noe Vasquez had seven saves on nine shots on goal in 90 minutes.

Palomar improves to 4-2-3 and 1-0 in conference play. They will host San Diego Mesa College at home on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
