Comets hand Coyotes first PCAC loss

EL CAJON, CA (10/7/2022) -- Palomar headed into enemy territory on Friday to face PCAC rival Cuyamaca College with the goal of avenging last season's losses to the Coyotes. And they did just that. A 2-0 win over Cuyamaca gave head coach David Linenberger his first career win over the Coyotes.

The Comets battled hard in a physical match that saw eight yellow cards. To say these two teams do not like each other would be an understatement. Adrian Ibarra got things started for the Comets as he found the net in the 24th minute for an unassisted goal. Coming together as halftime, the Comets kept pushing forward with their eyes on the prize. In the 48th minute, Josh Alcantara connected a pass from Diego Picano to take a 2-0 lead.

Palomar is now 6-3-3 overall and 3-1 in PCAC play. They are the first team to six wins this season and are tied for second place with Cuyamaca and are sitting behind MiraCosta College. They will face Imperial Valley College at home for a 4 p.m. kickoff on Minkoff Field on Tuesday.
