Comets eye first conference title

SAN MARCOS, CA (8/26/2022) -- The men's soccer team is continuing its steady climb to the top of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference this season with the hope of making the playoffs. After a second-place finish last season to Cuyamaca, the Comets have worked all spring and summer to prepare for the fall season. Last season the Comets finished 10-8-1 overall with a 7-5 conference finish, their best finish to the season under head coach David Linenberger.

The Comets will play a tough nonconference schedule, opening up on the road against Oxnard College on Friday, August 26th. From there the Comets will face solid Orange Empire Conference teams. They will host Cypress College for their home opener the next Tuesday, hit the road to face Pasadena City College and be home Friday, September 9th for a match against Santa Ana College.

Big conference matches for the Comets all come under the lights at home this season when they face Highway 78 rivals MiraCosta College, San Diego Mesa College, Cuyamaca College and San Diego City College to close out the regular season.

The Comets return seven players from last season and filled holes in the roster to complete the team. Dustin Vena, Jeff Nelson, Brian Ojeda and Henry Galindo will be the back wall for Palomar, while Andy Zazueta, Thomas Marques and Eddie Villagrana will direct the team from the midfield. Up front, the Comets have all new players, but don;t let that fool you as they have the speed and craftiness to get the ball in the goal.
