Comets Earn No. 21 Seed, Set for First Playoff Appearance Under Patterson
SAN MARCOS, CA (2/25/2025) -- For the first time under head coach Ivan Patterson, the Palomar College men's basketball team is heading to the postseason. The Comets earned the No. 21 seed in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs and will travel to face No. 12 San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in a first-round showdown.
Palomar finished the regular season with a 17-11 overall record and a 10-6 mark in conference play, securing a top-four finish in the standings. The Comets have shown resilience throughout the season, picking up key wins and closing out strong behind a balanced scoring attack and tenacious defense.
This marks Palomar's first playoff appearance since the 2021-22 season when they fell in overtime to Cypress College in the opening round. Now in his third season, Patterson has guided the Comets back to the postseason and will look to lead his team to a statement victory against a tough San Bernardino Valley squad. The Wolverines (22-6) enter the matchup with a high-powered offense and a strong defensive presence, posing a challenge that Palomar is eager to embrace.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, as the Comets aim to extend their season and make a deep postseason run.
