Comets Fall in Close Contest Against Copper Mountain Despite Strong Defensive Effort

SAN MARCOS, CA (11/12/2024) -- In a tightly contested home game, the Palomar College men's basketball team fought hard but fell just short against Copper Mountain, losing 63-61. The matchup was a defensive showdown, with both teams struggling to find consistent offensive rhythm. Ultimately, Copper Mountain's efficiency in the paint and rebounding advantage made the difference, despite a valiant effort by the Comets.

The Comets were led by Isaiah Tolmaire, who scored 15 points with two three-pointers, providing a spark on the perimeter. Isaiah Pomare dominated the boards, securing 16 rebounds along with 12 points, while Jaidyn Norman also notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Their efforts helped Palomar keep the game close, especially in the final minutes, where they were within striking distance until the last possessions.

Copper Mountain held a narrow advantage with 42 points in the paint compared to Palomar's 34 and out-rebounded Palomar 43-40, generating 15 second-chance points. Palomar's defense kept the game tight, forcing 13 turnovers and recording nine steals, while holding Copper Mountain to just 6% shooting from three-point range.

Despite their first loss of the season, Palomar's tenacity and teamwork on defense showed promise as they move forward with a 2-1 record. The Comets are eager to bounce back in their next game as they build on this strong early-season performance.
