Comets’ Season Ends in Extra-Inning Heartbreaker
CYPRESS, CA (5/18/2025) -- Palomar College Baseball's postseason run came to a dramatic close Sunday afternoon, as the Comets fell 6-5 in 10 innings to Cypress College in the deciding game of the CCCAA Regional Finals.
In a back-and-forth battle, the Comets jumped out to an early 5-1 lead behind timely hitting and aggressive base running. Carter Jorissen got things started with an RBI in the first, and Palomar added four more in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run single from Jordan Treadwell and an RBI single from Drake Cobb. TK Madera also added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
But Cypress clawed back, powered by three home runs, including two from Evan Rolbiecki. The Chargers chipped away with runs in the fifth and sixth, then tied the game in the bottom of the ninth before walking it off in the 10th.
Despite managing just six hits, the Comets found ways to produce, drawing eight walks and capitalizing on early opportunities. Braedon Peterson-Cheek led the way with a 2-for-5 day, while Treadwell, Cobb, Loving, and Jorissen each contributed on the scoresheet.
Palomar used five pitchers in the finale. Starter Brandon Bollerer allowed just one run through four innings, while Joey Halter provided three strong innings in relief. Jacob Imoto was tagged with the loss after entering in the 10th.
The Comets finish the season 36-13 overall after reaching their third Regional Finals in four seasons.
