Palomar Completes Sweep of San Diego City with 8-5 Road Win
SAN DIEGO, CA (4/19/2025) -- No. 7 Palomar College wrapped up a three-game series sweep over San Diego City College with a steady 8-5 win on Friday afternoon at Morley Field. With the victory, the Comets improve to 27-10 overall and 18-4 in PCAC play, clinching at least a share of the conference title heading into the final series of the regular season.
The Comets came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Though the Knights chipped away with runs in the fourth and fifth, Palomar's early offensive surge and shutdown bullpen secured the win.
Carter Jorissen led the charge with a 4-for-5 day at the plate, while AJ Klubeck went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Justin Tucker added two more RBIs. Drake Cobb drove in three runs, including a key two-run double in the second inning. Braedon Peterson-Cheek stayed hot with a 2-for-4 effort, driving in a run and scoring twice. Jacob Loving also contributed with a 3-for-5 performance from the bottom of the lineup.
On the mound, Joey Navarro (4-0) earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out three. Michael Getzinger followed with two perfect innings of relief, and Joey Halter locked down his third save of the season.
Palomar returns to action Tuesday when it opens the final regular season series against Imperial Valley College. One more win would clinch the PCAC championship outright.
