
Comets Win Thriller Over San Diego Mesa to Clinch Series
SAN MARCOS, CA (4/5/52025) -- Palomar College closed out their three-game series against San Diego Mesa College with a wild 8-7 win on Saturday afternoon at Bob Vetter Field, securing the series victory and moving to 22-9 overall and 13-3 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.
The Comets jumped ahead early, scoring in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead. The big blow came in the bottom of the sixth, when Palomar erupted for four runs to extend their lead to 7-2. AJ Klubeck delivered a key two-run double in the frame, while Jacob Loving and Braedon Peterson-Cheek each added two RBIs on the day.
But San Diego Mesa wasn't done. The Olympians stormed back with five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 7-7. Palomar responded immediately, scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the inning, and the bullpen held on from there.
Brendan Shanahan continued his hot stretch, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Adrian Macias scored twice and reached base three times, and Jordan Treadwell added a hit, a walk, and two runs.
On the mound, Jacob Imoto (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out two and allowing just one hit. Joey Navarro started the game, tossing six innings and giving up just two runs while striking out four.
Palomar will begin a new PCAC series on Tuesday, traveling to Southwestern College to take on the Jaguars. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
