Palomar Drops Series Opener to San Diego Mesa, 5-3
SAN MARCOS, CA (4/1/2025) -- Palomar College opened its three-game series against San Diego Mesa College with a 5-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Vetter Field.
The Comets (20-9, 11-3 PCAC) found themselves trailing 4-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, but put together a late rally to close the gap. Braedon Peterson-Cheek got the Comets on the board with an RBI single, followed by a two-run single from catcher Carter Jorissen to make it a one-run game.
However, the Olympians responded with an insurance run in the top of the eighth to push the score to 5-3. Despite getting runners on in the final two innings, the Comets were unable to capitalize.
Peterson-Cheek led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, two stolen bases, and a walk. Jorissen drove in two runs, while Brendan Shanahan, Justin Tucker, Adrian Macias, and Jacob Loving each added a hit.
On the mound, starter Brandon Bollerer gave the Comets 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out five. Joey Halter and Jacob Imoto combined for the next 2.2 innings, giving up three runs before Michael Getzinger tossed a scoreless ninth.
Palomar will look to even the series when they head to San Diego Mesa for Game 2 on Thursday afternoon.
